Asking for help, Interest in Romanian daggers

Dear community,

I'm searching for a good-quality pic of pre-WW2 Romanian naval dagger. I'd like to use it in a book covering European dress-daggers. If someone could share with me, I guarantee the source credit and a book-copy when it'll be published. Really hope someone would be so kind, because daggers of this type are pretty rare here in Moscow. If it's possible for anyone to share, I'd ask to write me a personal message.

From my side, can share any information/pictures I obtain related to Russia/USSR =)

Is it so rare even in Romania, or noone has such a dagger?

I'd also highly appreciate any photos of Romanian officers/NCO with dress daggers - through all XX century including pre-WW2, WW2 and socialist period, if anyone would be so kind to share.

Hello,

I have a friend who still had his grand-father's dagger (the grand father was a naval officer). However, the dagger was broken in two, in order to avoid its surrender to the Red Army and only the half with the handle and a small part of the blade remain.

Are you interested in pictures with it and with its pouch?

Dear Alexei, wonderful photo! Am I right, supposing this is an NCO, not officer? As far as I know, black handles were for NCOs.

Romanian Naval Daggers in my collection.



I have seen around 12-15 other variations. I suspect that they are a lot like Romanian swords. Naval Dirks being ordered in small quantities and styles and designs changing consistantly depending on manufacturer, period and perhaps by choice of the person doing the ordering for example each naval officers graduating class had a separate order for dirks. I have also noticed that specialized departments also had a more personilized naval dirk. Especially Engineers, Aero Flotilla, and Submarine Group. I think that after 1935-36 Approx. that the naval dirks became more standardized under King Carol II. This I have noticed by studying many naval photographs. Wish there was more information out there on the subject.
