The explosions are at "Gara de Nord".
The big building near by was belonging to tha CFR and today in a part of it is a "Bank Post".
Maybee Mytzu, who lives in the area can confirm.

It looks like the bombs fell near Coltea Hospital-Hristo Botev street.
Cannot be sure about the building the photo was taken from....

Mytzu , are you saying is CFR ? ( Railway Administration Building ) or near Gara de Nord ? If yes, what I know from my dad when he was alive, that US bombers have mistakenly bombed CFR and near Gara de Nord as well CFR workers residential compounds in the near proximity near Gara de Nord whereby over 200 people got killed on that specific incident......can you guys clarify that for me what was the target on that day ? If the photos are related to that wrong bombing...than they have great historical value .

Thanks
Alex

Alex, that incident was on 4 april 1944. when the americans hab bombed by mistake the CFR workers residential compounds from Calea Griviţei. The real number of the kills was 2763 and another 2.341 where wounded.

Aparently the target was "Gara de Nord" but they missed the target and droped the bombs on residential area killing many many civilians. My grandmother had a home on Calea Grivitiei which was blown up, fortunatelly she was not home. Some bombs even fell near the place I live, fortunatelly it missed it smile.gif

As I can see in this picture,

The bombs fell behind the building where "Gara de Nord" is located (they fell aprox. paralel to Calea Grivitei of what I can make of it).

Here are some pictures of Gara de Nord area (probably their target that day) and Calea Grivitei :
