I voted for the Bf-109G Gustav, because it was the Romanian fighter that shot a Mustang!

Your poll is to simple ( like you put it). Is like what car is best Mercedes or Dacia. Of course the most advanced fighter in romanian service was the Bf 109 G no doubt. And was the one who shot Mustangs. But the fighter with the most numbers of heavy bombers shot down was IAR 80-81 . The fighter with the best ratio combat loss/ victories was Hurricane and so on. |

I thought read I some where that it was close 70 claimed victories! anyway 30 to 1 is an excellent ratio by any standard! And don't forget what Horia Agarici did in his Hurricane! This post has been edited by Stephen Dabapuscu on September 25, 2009 01:02 am |

I intended to say don't forget what Horia Agarici did his Hurricane! Taking off in his battle damaged Hurricane and downing 3 Russian bombers and damaging several others! |

i subscribe to what cantacuzino said. For sure, you establish the best airplane in an airforce by the loss/victories ratio. For USAAF, the worst fighter was Buffalo, but for Finish Air Force, was the best . In our case, altough we used more technically advanced Emil's and Gustav's, the best used was Hurricane. |

For a clearer picture, one must count the amount of overclaiming, which was the highest in the 1941 campaign - including for the Hurricane-equipped Esc. 53 vân. Gen. Dénes |

I voted for the Hurricane myself... I just love this elegant fighter.
Just my 02 cents. Al |
