Zaloga's article on Romanian armour (Military Modelling) speak about a dozen Polish TK and TKS tankettes, described as being in worn-out, poor condition, were either driven or dragged across the Romanian frontier and interned following the German invasion of Poland in September 1939.
I think there are rumanian crew on these pictures, but I know that polish uniform are very similar. Other Polish tankettes may have been supplied to Romania by Germany prior to the invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941, but this is not confirmed. Details on subsequent service with the Royal Romanian Army are lacking, but any such Polish tankettes extant were probably impressed into service perhaps in a disarmed state as tracked towing vehicles for antitank guns. I found article on TK usage in romanian army but I can't read russian, if someone could, please translate. |

In the text :
The question is if there were in the Romanian Army tankettes TK-3 and newer TKS, as some books wrote. Answers : A promotion of these machines in Romania 1934-1937 did not bring an effect. In Sep.1939 they were 13 Polish tankettes in the 101st. tank comp./the 10th. macanized cavalry brigade... After Sept.18th, some tankettes retired to borders (7 TKS, 9 TK-3 and 4 TKF). It is very clear today that 16 tankettes of 10th brigade went to Hungary and were included in his army. Not clear what about 4 TKF, maybe they went to Romania. Romania started the war with 178 tankettes, 35 were R-1 and 126 Malaxa, so the rest of 17 ... could be a Polish detachment. Till now there is no answer about their fate . |
