QUOTE (eBay)
Unusual WWII Period Air Force dagger. Brass skull with red stone eyes pommel and propeller shaped crossguard. Wire wrapped round white bakelite grip with an affixed crowned “MI” (cypher of King Michael 1927-1930 and 1940-1945). 6 1/2” diamond shaped narrow graying blade. Blue velvet covered scabbard with an oak leaf embellished gilt brass one-ring throat and long tip. (Unsubstantiated story that dagger was presented to a Luftwaffe general who served in Romania.) About condition II.

This dagger has been described on eBay as a "Mini Aviation dagger". Did anything like that exist or this particular one is only an over-sharpened 'normal' dagger?

It looks like the blade broke and was then filed down.

Thanks for the reply. I thought so myself but wanted some confirmation.

Be careful. Alot of daggers coming out of Romania that I call parts daggers. Made up with original and reproduced parts combined. Also, fantasy daggers. Looks good. However, never existed. Made yesterday.

An explanation may be that many offciers chose to brake their daggers rather than surrender them. The grandfather of a good friend, a naval officer, chose this solution for example.
