On the 22nd of September, in Shumen, will be celebrated the great victory of the European Christian armies led by the great commander Janos Hunyadi (Iancu de Hunedoara) over the Ottoman Turks. On the Christian army there was also a contingent of Wallachian soldiers led by the Prince Vlad II Dracul, the father of the famous Prince Vlad Tepes (“The Impaler”). The main act of this event will be, as usually, the reconstruction of the battle of Shumen. Maybee our Forum coleague, Sturmpioner could put some links with aspects of the previous events.

This year, about 100 reenactors from Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Russia will be present at this event and will recreate the Christian coalition army. About 160 Bulgarian reenactors will participate, most of them dressed in Ottoman costumes.

The organizers, the historical Association “Traditsia”, from Shumen, also invited the members of the “6 Dorobantzes” Association to participate at this event. (see the program of the event : http://6dorobanti.ro/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1188893107 ).

Unfortunately, our association recreate only modern times Romanian soldiers, from 1877 to 1945. We don’t have costumes, equipment, weapons and training to participate at a medieval reconstruction. I think, the Transylvanian medieval groups ((“The Knights of Sighisoara”. “The Knights of Medias”, etc.) that usually participate at the historical events in Romania could be most interested to participate. Unfortunately we don’t have a contact with these groups, so we couldn’t inform them about this show.

It would be great if someone of this Forum, who lives in those Transylvanian cities, could inform them about this show. Otherwise, the Transylvanian and Wallachian warriors will be represented again by foreign reenactor enthusiasts. sad.gif

Hi, Kepi!

I contacted "Ordinul Cavalerilor de Medias" this summer when thay had a show in Oradea and they were very opened to any collaboration and/or suggestions.

Their web adress is www.ordinulcavalerilordemedias.ro
Probably it should be better if you will inform them about the show, because you have the informations at first hand.

I also have their phone number, please PM if you are interested to contact them by phone, I'll give you the phone numbers.

Almost sure they will be able to contact also the knights from Sighisoara.

The first reconstruction of the Battle of Shumen fortress in 1444 was held in 2004. The only foreign participators were Chech knights.

Two years later was the next reenactment. This time there were Czech, Polish and Hungarian reenactors.

This time we expect also Russian and Ukrainian knights.

Thank you 21 inf for the link to "Ordinul Cavalerilor de Medias". Unfortunately as far as I can see they have rather Western and Central-European style of clothing and armament, than Wallahian or Transilvanian one.
It will be realy well if there's a group wich represents a real medieval "Romanian" army. The next reconstruction in Shumen will be in 2008, but we're planning aslo a reenactment of the Battle of Varna in 1444. I will try also to suggest a future reconstruction of the Battle of Nicopolis (Nicopol) in 1396, when Mircea cel Batran supported the crusaders with 10 000 Wallahian troops. I hope that finaly a group of a "Romanian" medeiaval warriors will take part in these events.

Thank you for the information, 21 inf!

It’s very long time since I tryied to contact some of those medieval groups. I’ve sent a message to the “Knights of Medias” and have informed them about this show. I hope they or other medieval group in Transylvania will be able to go there, at least as spectators. Shumen is not far from Giurgiu, only 2 hours of driving. I think it’s more complicate to come from Medias to Giurgiu.

I also hope that our Association would establish a contact with these medieval groups. Even if we reenact different historical periods, some day it might be possible to organize a common multi-period show in Bucharest, maybe during the “Military Museum Days”, in which we’ll call the daco-roman association “Terra Dacica Aeterna”, from Cluj ( http://www.gandul.info/a.html?item=842992 si http://www.ziarulfaclia.ro/index.php?cmd=da&id=1263 ), the 18th Century reenactors of Alba Iulia ( http://www.apulum.ro/ro/traseu0.htm ) and any other group that will commemorate military historical traditions.

Thank you Sturmpionier, for the information and for your efforts to ensure a Romanian (Transylvanian/Wallachian) presence at the show of Shumen.

Hope to meet you, and your colleagues, at the 130th anniversary of the Battlle of Pleven, as soon as possible. wink.gif

I think "Janos" is John/Ioan in hungarian.

Well it was a great slaughter and melee. Realy excellent reenactment. I have several bruises and light injures. Cool ! However we succeed to defeat the Ottomans and capture the fortress. The were many Chezh, several Hungarian and this time only 3 Polish reenactors, shooters with bombards and siege equipment. All of the Bulgarians ( except me and 2 knights) played the turks. I participated as a Transylvanian man-at-arms and banner carrier. Kind responsible role !
