I decided to open this topic since I wonder what realy is going on?
The aviation museum was opened almost two years ago. Since the age of 4 I'm visiting museums wherever I can.... If you want to visit the one above you'll have to fight 4-5 dogs in order to pass the parking area (who is full of cars, but not visitors cars-those must parc a long distance away). After making it to the gate, you'll have to fight another bunch inside. Every time I'm going there I fell unwelcomed. It seemed like they don't want any visitors. So I'm asking you. What is going on? |

Romanian usual... Nothing moves on, unless the press gets noticed. Have you tried calling Realitatea TV? Maybe they're interested in a short news about how some of the contributors money are spent, let alone the cultivation of history...

Hallo C-2
Its not only in Bucharest, that you can encounter problems, with regards Museums. My brother Anthony and a Romanian friend went to visit the: MUZEUL NATIONAL AL UNIRII ALBA JULIA in January 2008, while he was here on a visit, they paid their entry fee, both were carrying cameras and the lady who sold the tickets made no comments about the cameras, but while looking around the military section, they were approached by some guy, obviously with drink taken, slurred speech, unsteady walk, who told them that photography of the exhibits was not allowed and if they attempted to take pictures they would be arrested!! Despite the threat he managed to sneak some pictures of weapons and medals:- Its fully understandable that flash photos can affect cloth material or painted items, but weapons!! and most modern cameras can manage to take decent pictures indoors without using the flash setting. With such attitude as displayed at the MUZEUL NATIONAL AL UNIRII ALBA JULIA, no wonder, many people do not bother going to the museum Maybe its time for an advanced course on how to run a Museum as a business to generate money for the museum, and not as a place where the employees consider the contents to be their own personnel property, to loot and sale at their leisure. Aside from this example, I must say that I really enjoyed my visits to the Romanian Military Museum in Bucharest, where the staff were very kind and helpful during my visit, my only fault being the items on display as you came in the front door being kept in the dark, I actually missed them when entering and was to short of time to have a close look in the dark on the way out, but thats a very minor fault that can be rectified very easily with somebody turning on the lights. What is changing?
I'm passing near it every day... The plane at the entrence has been vandalize. The patking is full of cars (not belonging tto visitors),and getting to the enterece is impossible due to a horde of dogs. I don't want to know what suprises you can have inside. The lausiest aviation in the whole world. |

Oh, my friend, seems like the dude was right, some of the guns DID vanish after you took photos of them These are my photos taken in December, looks like the MP-40 and the PPSh-41 have vanished without trace. Demilitarised genuine MP40s go for 600-800 Euros, PPSh in working order fetch ~700$, but if somehow the MP was unaltered... apparently the rate is ~10k$. I seriously wonder if the Arms&Explosives Police and/or the Organised Crime bureau should look into this. |

I visited today the museum after a few years.
There were a lot of changes and to the better. Much more space, better distribution of the planes in the yard, and some new rooms open. New exhibits. Even the 4 dogs (3 at the enterence were ignoring us) and the forth (some king of a Brack) was friendly and we enjoyed his company. Not to mention that we had a parking. Keep on! |

That's a good news, as when I visited the museum, at that time located near Baneasa airport, one of the dogs bit my calf from behind. I wasn't amused, particularly when the nurse at the airport administered an injection in my belly... Gen. Dénes |

Yes, indeed. When I told the nurse what happened, she asked me right away: was it that yellow dog? I said yes, it was. Then she administered the anti-tetanus (?) injection on spot, at the airport's emergency room. Then I got another one in Tg.Mures, as my in-laws are both doctors. Unlucky me. Gen. Nowadays, anti-rabic vaccine is shot in the shoulder. Nevertheless, you had to prove you are a man visiting the aviation museum. Pilots had to endure more !

Were you treated by your father in law? I guess it was long since he examined a male pacient. |
