I am a member on Axis History Forum, living in America, and descended from Transyvanian Saxons. After a year of waiting, the CNSAS in Bucharest has notified me that they have a 231 page file on my grandfather, but they will not post the file except to a Romanian address and I must give them some 30 LEI for photo copying.

I need to hire someone to go to the CNSAS office and mail the file to me. I can PayPal money to cover the expenses. Might this be possible?

My grandfather, born in 1901 in Kronstadt, attended the K.u.K. (Kaiserlich und Königlich) Militäroberschule in Kaschau from 1914 to 1918. From 1917 to 1918 he served in the 1st Stürmbataillion in Budapest.

From 1918 to 1923 he served with the 89th Hungarian Transylvanian (Siebenbürgischen). In 1919 this regiment regiment saw action against the communist revolutionary Bela Kuhn in Hungary.

In 1919, for reasons unknown to me, my grandfather was imprisoned by the Romanians for a few months, then later attended the Romanian military academy for two years, attempted to flee to Hungary just before he was to be commissioned a Lieutenant and was sentenced again to two years in prison (1921-23).

Fast forward for 20 years, and my grandfather is in the Abwehr, stationed in Bucharest and Akara. At the end of the war he was imprisoned in Malmaison barracks from 1944 to 1947.

Am looking forward to getting some answers for my mother, who turns 79 this month. She never saw her father since she was evacuated from Berlin in 1943.

UPDATE: The Asociatia Traditia Militara has contacted me and generously offered to assist with the CNSAS and retrieving the file and I look forward to sharing updates.

I encourage someone living in Rumania (Bucharest) to assist him in obtaining the documents from CNSAS.

Hopefully, we'll hear more details of this interesting life story here on the forum.

Between 1918-1923 there was no more AH kuk army, as AH empire didnt exist anymore. The 89th Regiment was station in Odorhei, and was raised in 1919 AFAIK, it was a romanian army regiment.

Thank you for this comment...I was questioning how there could be an AH regiment at this time. I appreciate the information about 89th regiment HQ being in Oderhei...this is new knowledge for me.

What is the historically correct name of the 89th regiment. I would be interested in researching this more.

Sorry, I made a mistake. 89th Regiment was not stationed in Odorhei, 97th was. I made a confusion.

Thanks for the clarification. How would you suggest that I go about researching the 89th Regiment?

Do you happen to know where it was headquartered?

Since last evening when I realised I made a mistake, I am looking for 89th Regiment. I know that I readed about it, but I cant remember were, so I keep searching.

As I googled the net, it showed that 89th Regiment was stationed between 1939-1944 in Braşov. At least between 1941-1944 was part of 13th Infantry Division. This division was raised in 1914 in Ploieşti.

Bela Kuhn's regime ended in 1919 after romanian army destroyed his army.

An update of sorts...

After a very kind offer of assistance from www.traditia-militara.ro we are now in a waiting period while the CNSAS file is reviewed. I believe it will be another 60 days at least before we have more news.

Hopefully there will some interesting data to share soon.

Update...

CNSAS has notified us that the Securitate file has been processed and with the very generous help from www.traditia-militara.ro I hope to have the file soon.

If there is anyone else interested in what the contents might reveal, feel free to express your interest.
