I found this photo in archives. Is this a Me 109 F or G?
You can see that on the left-up side is written Me 109 F.

According to a book, Ion Milu flew a 109F when he shared a large soviet bomber kill, with IAR-80a #117 flown by Muresan. This was at Tuzov, Stalingrad 1942.

It could however been a 109E probably.

It's a Bf 109G-4, W.Nr. 19522.

Flown by Of. ech. av. Ioan Milu of Gr. 7 vân., it sustained 35% damage in combat with LaGG-3s on August 19, 1943.

Officially, there was no 'Friedrich' in ARR combat service.

Yes.
There were also a couple of 'Friedrich' captured after Aug. 23, 1944.

Acording to Dicezare,their grup instuctor in Tuzow while fliyng with Jg 3 -Wolf Dietrich Wilke,told them that the F was better in a dogfight than a G....
He dowened 2-3 PO 2 over the airfield just after the grup arirval.

A JG3 Officer was group instructor for romanian pilots on Tusow ? ohmy.gif how come ? Why did elite Gr. 7 Vt. needed a german instructor in late 1942 in the 2nd ARR campaign ?

III/JG 3 was at Tuzov for only 2 days in the same time as the 7th Fighter Group. Maybe he meant Tiraspol, not Tuzov.

Thanks Victor - that makes sense.Besides there were no other 109's then Emil for romanian pilots at Stalingrad.Although I/JG3 and III/JG3 started to recieve G2's in september '42 at Stalingrad.

Maybee gr 7 were an elite group,but from pilots like Von Boremski ,Wilke or Lipfert,there was much to learn...

Ofcourse it was much to learn from them,but at that time were thye officially instructors for the romanian pilots ? Or maybe you meant something more like spiritual instructors (to be read as non - officially) ?

Ther is a reason why I ask this: if they were instructors officialy, flying the Fredrick, it means that romanian pilots were meant to start training for the G version since Stalingrad campaign.

The decision to re-equip ARR with modern German technology (including the Gustav) was taken after the Stalingrad fiasco, in early 1943.

Sure there was, but not in teh two days they spent together at Tuzov. The 7th Fighter Group arrived there on 8 September 1942 and the III/JG 3 left it on 10 September.

Futhermore, Hptm. Helmut Lipfert only served on the front in II/JG 52 and I/JG 53. There was no connection between him and JG 3.
