The thing that the named post is a political propaganda tool is a fact, not a personal view. You can qualify as personal view the thing that I do not consider the employees of that post journalists, but each with his own standards. Case closed from my side too.

The whole essence of "freedom of thought" is that everyone should be free to believe whatever they want, no exceptions.
As Voltaire said, "I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will die for your right to say it". So what if a journalist does not write what you want to read? There are plenty of journalists who write the opposite. So, you have the option to choose to read whatever you want! Many Romanians simply cannot handle the concepts of "freedom of thought" and "freedom of choice" after so many years of communism that imposed the concepts of "strans uniti in jurul", "toti intr-o suflare", "poporul laolalta" etc. In the communist days, anyone who disagreed with the "official line" was ruthlessley "eliminated". Anyone who says that it is bad to have a personal opinion, whatever that is, behaves exactly in the same way as those criminal idiots who sent people to the Canal just because they happened to make use of their mental capacity for indepentent thought. That also means that Dragos was perfectly entitled to say what he said. ;-) Radu |

It seems that nowadays we're going back not to the period '68-80's (when people were called to rally around the flag of the Party and Ceauşescu, but rather to the 50's, when everybody had to be "strâns uniţi împotriva" (rallied AGAINST) such concepts as "bourgeoisie", "royalists", "kulaks", "fascists" etc. @aidanzea: the extensive use of smilies such as is a sign that that particular post isn't meant to be taken seriously. But I stick to my oppinion: this is not the place for politics! -------------------- M

The recent political events have taken a rather geopolitical turn with the positions adopted by the EU, US, and with the reactions of certain Romanian politicians towards those positions. For the first time in recent years (or maybe for the first time in the post-1989 period?) we see protests in Universitatii Square with banners on which anti-American messages can be read. In my opinion there's nothing wrong with having a civilized discussion on this forum, but it's the administrators' decision whether it should take place here or in the general discussions section. -------------------- I

Well, since you put it this way, it really is on topic, as "what's next" has become quite blurred in the light of the recent events; blurred, except the fact that Schengen got out of our reach... as did the American free-of-visa dream... IMO, at least!

I appreciate your position aidanzea, and I share your opinions! In order to avoid tension this topic I will not answer to MMM, and I will not comment in any way Dragos remarks! I am glad that Radub had a correct posture in the sense of free expression and respect each opinion even different! I think that this discussion is useful as long as we can respect different oppinions and respect the interlocutor here or in the general discussion topic!

Something very funny about politics: it is hard to understand why people otherwise intelligent and educated take side with the opposite camp.
Politics are supposed to unite people, but almost always they divide them. This post has been edited by Florin on August 24, 2012 03:21 pm |

Andreas, indeed I believe in freedom of opinion and freedom of expression, but neither of those means "immunity from consequences". People often confuse "freedom" with "immunity". Romanians say "gura bate... sezutul". The truth of the matter is that great freedoms come with great responsibilities. Lies, calumny, disclosure of sensitive or classified information, interfering with justice, incitement to hatred, racism, antisemitism, etc are not justified by "freedom of expression". So, to summarise, it is no "disrespect" to point out and challenge someone's lies, lack of logic or pure idiocy when this someone "expresses his or her opinion". Radu |
