Another succesfull operation mate! Don't you think it would be better to clean the black paint off the mp40 magazine?

Anyway, keep up the good work! wink.gif

Nice job, I see a lot of hard work there.

How did you do the spring, the wire seems a bit thick and also have you heat treated it?

Theoretically such a sprig could be done in the kitchen oven the big problem is bending the wire without heating it.

Here http://6dorobanti.ro/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1174226529/45 is a link to a nice picture with a dissasembled Orita mag.

I've used Liviu's Orita pictures from the article and counted the number of coils in the spring.

The spring itself was made from a very elastic wire (i wanted a working mag in the end) coiled onto a piece of metal with a suitable square section. No heat treatment was used, didn't want to loose the springyness in the wire. And even if was tough to do, i think it was well worth it.

The wire might be a little thick, but it won't be seeing the light of day anytime soon rolleyes.gif

As for the mp mag, it will stay this way. It was found and coated in black to prevent further rusting some 15 years ago (the early days) and it's a good memento. Stripping it will be a project for the next owner tongue.gif

Thanks for the appereciations! wink.gif

The best wire for making springs is 0.3-0.4 mm steel rod that is very strong. I used 0.5 mm steel rod for a project, and I was very successful, the torsion spring I made are extremely powerful. But after I cold bent them I heat treated them in the the oven at 240C for cca 45min then let them cool, they get e very nice blueing and maintain their shape.
