Marine Infantry, Infanteria Marina – Marina Regala

I tried to find more information about Marine Infantry on this website but it looks that this subject was not really discussed here. If I am wrong, please let me know.

I opened this new topic with hope that we can get together and collect more information about Marine Infantry.

What kind of uniforms they had?

I am personally interested in Marine Infantry from period of July 1944 to August 23, 1944. Where Marine Infantry units were dislocated from July 1944 to August 23, 1944? In Constanta or other places too?

I am also looking for information about Nitu Ion from Comuna Stancea, Judetul Ilfov. He was my grandfather’s comrade.

If everyone will contribute with something I am sure that we will be able to find interesting staff about Marine Infantry.

I am wondering, are there anywhere in Romanian archives the lists with the solders from these Marine Infantry Battalions?

It takes time to translate everything on the site from English to Romanian. If the Romanian version is not available a text will appear that will tell the respective person to check the English version of the article.

There is not much written on the Marine infantry simply because there isn't much to tell about it. They were considered second class troops in the Romanian Army and generally had security missions with very few front line duty.

An interesting article about Marine Infantry and the fights on the Danube Delta in 1941 is rote by Comandor Nicolae Petrescu and Cristian Craciunoiu in Modelism no. 5-6 /2010 , entitled " Lupta de la Chilia Veche - 26 iunie 1941 " .

Guys, who can tell me something about “Regimentul Artilerie Marina Constanta “ in the period of May 1944. Where it was dislocated? It was just in Constanta?

Here is a photo of a WW1 Naval Infantry soldier holding a 1893 Steyr Rifle. Piping on the pant legs is black, colar patches black, and kepi has a black Naval Anchor sewn to the front of it.

Oau! A beautiful picture of a almost perfect romanian soldier in the so called 1916 uniform. Note that he has no putties because he is waring the tall md 1912 boots. In many cases WWI soldiers issued with putties and 1912 boots wear the boots over the putties. In 1916 short boots were introduced together with putties. Also I think he is wearing the kepi with the tips turned, in a style very common in WWII.

I'm going to add a nice shiny button to my repro kepi that I use for reenactment, as a bit of bling is always good .
