Some images with romanian marine infantrymen in 1944, from Emil Bongard's collection (former marine in ww2, the guy in the portrait)

After august 1944 he was taken prisoner (because of his german origins) and sent to Targu Jiu prisoners camp (the same with TG Jiu communist prisoners "lager" where Ceausescu was imprisoned). He managed to escape, and lived a "hidden" life somewhere in Transylvania. I Had a project to interview him, but he got ill ad moved to a german old people hospital in Timisoara. I do not know if he is still alive or no. When I met him, in 2008, he had over 90 years old... This post has been edited by chisi on November 28, 2010 06:22 pm |

He meant "camp" (like in "prisoner camp"), not "lager" which means "beer". |

Of course, my apologies for german variant of the camp.
and "gefangenen lager" means, mr Bansaraba, beer for or made by POWs... I have not the courage to search the meaning of Konzentrationslager. |
