Regarding helicopters, the fact that one was designed and made in 1960 does not mean it is ready for garbage. Adding some modern infrared or ultrasound system to sense the surroundings should be number one priority for such an old apparatus. This post has been edited by Florin on July 30, 2010 03:09 am |

Yet, I see you yourself are quick to paint all the British, French, & Germans with the same brush. Where does it say that this is the general opinion of all the citizens of Britain, France or Germany? Do not presume because some idiot posts a general comment that they are in fact talking or representing their whole nation. AS for the so called "glory days" most were over by the mid 1950's for the British and French, the Germans "glory days" ended sooner in May 1945, so today's generation would have no idea about the concept of glory as applied to that particular period of history. French mass media has this habit to add "salt" and "pepper" in reporting news, which makes it looking less professional compared with any important American newspaper, for example. In the 1990's, when an Airbus with Romanian crew felled near Bucharest, some French reporters claimed on an important TV channel that the failure is because of the "pilots from Bantustan". (Bantustan = any of several all-black enclaves formerly in the Republic of South Africa that had a limited degree of self-government). When in 1994 the Romanian soccer team surprised everybody by defeating Columbia, a French reporter relayed that "Hagi's gipsies defeated Columbia". About 2 years ago, BBC kept picking in news some questionable and archaic traditions from Nigeria and India. But the Nigerian and Indians have numerous and strong immigration communities, who started to reply with fury. So BBC turned to an easier prey, the homeless children in Bucharest. They returned to that again and again in their news, as a kind of obsession. Now it was the turn of Romanians to write angrily on the BBC website. I am assuming you know that there are also homeless children in the United Kingdom, but you don't see them in the daily news. About Germany, in the 1990's their mass-media was full of mentions about Romanians as "thieves", "gipsies" etc. I thought it was only for us. I learned this year that this treatment was the same for the Croats, and in general it was for the people from Eastern Europe. I understand that in a democracy you write what you want, but this kind of malice makes me think that the people / readers love it. A reporter / newspaper / TV would not dare to annoy their fans. I agree that somebody cannot issue a label and put it to a whole nation. But the Romanians suffered more injustice by being labeled altogether "gipsies" or "thieves" than the injustice suffered by the reasonable French, Brits and Germans when their whole nations are labeled "nationalistic" or "arrogant". The examples you provide may all be true examples, however ignorance, narrow mindedness and intolerance are alive and well in all races such comments as
are pure speculation wrapped around your opinion, and 99% of cheap gutter journalism finds itself at the bottom of the trash container every day worldwide,
and the content stays in the minds for a very short period. And none of the above examples you cite are connected to the "glory days" of any empire gone by. Kevin in Deva. This post has been edited by New Connaught Ranger on July 30, 2010 06:49 pm |

Just spoken with a friend from Israel.
Told me that the crew was a experienced one. Among them a 48 years old Chief squadron. No woman among the soldiers. They misspeled the name. |

Does it?!?! Just ask some of your Romanian acquintances what was on at the dreaded OTV last night or even last week - I guess that's far enough of a short period. You'lll be surprised at the answer, presuming you DO have acquaintances who watch OTV, either admitting it or not. I don't necessarily want to enter into an off-topic argument with you, but my strong oppinion ist that gutter news have their own way to persuade the reader/viewer to keep on consuming them. As for what Florin wrote, this is something usual for every nation, to slander their neighbours with clichees such as "Românii sunt hoţi" or "Ruşii sunt beţivi" or "Unguroaicele sunt... " or many, many others. This is part of the process of imagining THE OTHER, of blaming him/her/it of all the evil in the land, while our own people is nothing but a spring rose! PS: don't believe me, but read Lucian Boia and other authors who wrote about this! To come back to the CH-53: what if that was just an accident?! Let's allow them to rest in peace for now. -------------------- M

Axording to the Israeli news buletins, the accident occured due to heavy fog,bad weather and cause of the fact that the pilots weren't familiar with the terrain.
