I am looking for any information on my grandfather, Dimitru (or Dumitru) Simionescu. He died when I was 11, in 1985. (I am told) He defected to the United States (Selfridge Air Base) after WWII. I was told he flew in WWI. He had a sister (and a few brothers) who was married to someone high in the Romanian Army (or monarchy). He ended up in a sword duel with one of his superiors, killed him, and had to flee. He ended up flying a bomber in the French Foriegn Legion. He opened a resturaunt and then a car parts business near Detroit, Michigan called "Frenchy's Auto Parts. Him and his Romanian wife Anna (38 years his younger) had 5 kids who died in a fire, then had 5 more ( 4 boys and 1 girl).
Everyone called him Frenchy. The names of the children are Danny (Danu), Tomel (Toma), Gregory (Gregor), Eugene (Eugena), and Annette (Anna). He died at the age of 97 in 1985. Anyone with any speculation or information is greatly appreciated. Respectfully, Eugene T.
