Sir, adj. av. Ioan (Ion) Mucenica is my uncle. Exactly, he is my grandfather's brother. My father died one month ago, and his name was Ion Mucenica, he was baptized by his uncle. I have very old, brown photos with my father's family, but unfortunately I cannot say which one is his uncle.
Ion Mucenica has a daughter and a son, they both live in America. His daughter's name is Cornelia, I am holding the last Christmas card she sent a few weeks ago, addressed to my father. I wrote her back, I asked her to help me find a photo of her father. I also asked for the permission to make it public. I cannot tell you her name or make it public on a forum, but I will come back to you with details as soon as she contacts me back. I'm sure she has nothing against but I still have to ask her first, please understand me. Although I still cannot provide the information you require, I couldn't help myself from answering this topic. I will come back with details and (hopefully) with a photo. Is a promise. Respectfully, Magdalena Mucenica |

Adjutant aviator Ion Mucenica was one of the best fighter pilots of the Rumanian air force.
I published two photos of him in my book, Rumanian Aces of World War 2, page 20 and 22. Any chances his documents, mainly Carnet de Sbor, have survived with the family? Gen. Dénes |

The fact that he wasn't awarded the "Mihai Viteazul" order might have proven good for him in the communist era - most of the holders were persecuted! Anyway, from fighter pilot to gasoline seller - sucks, though!

Still a great article about a great hero. Like most WW2 heroes, life under the new regime wasn't exactly pleasant. I know that my grandfather was a aviation mechanic and I still have a photo of him behind what I think was a an I.A.R. 80. After the war he became a butcher so yeah... |

Oh, Dan, I did not criticize the story, but I tried to (just) underline the positive aspect of not recognizing his merits...
BTW, your grandfather wasn't "persecuted", was he? -------------------- M

Adj. av. Mucenica could not have been given the Michael the Brave Order, as it was awarded only to officers. Therefore, the whole sentence is meaningless.

I'm sorry if it seemed that I was criticizing your post. It was not my intention and I actually agree with you 100%. Our country never learned to appreciate its valuable people. I don't know exactly if my grandfather was persecuted since he wasn't exactly a war hero, but I doubt one would give a job as airplane mechanic to become a butcher out of sheer passion. |
