Can anyone supply information on the ammo loadout of the IAR 80 and 81? There is not a lot around on the internet and sources conflict. I'm interested in the first IAR 80 series (4x 7,62mm MGs), IAR 81A and IAR 81C.

Thx in advance. smile.gif

The 4-gun IAR80 carried 2400 rounds of 7.92mm ammunition
The 6-gun IAR80A and IAR81 carried 2400 rounds of 7.92mm ammunition
The IAR80B carried 1600 rounds of 7.92mm ammunition and 300 rounds of 13.2mm ammunition (which was later increased to 350)
The IAR80C carried 1600 rounds of 7.92mm ammunition and 120 rounds for the 20mm MG-FF cannon
The IAR81C carried 1400 rounds of 7.92mm ammunition and 350 rounds for the MG151/20 cannon

There was no IAR81A. It was planned as a dive bomber with heavy machine guns but it was never built.

350 rounds for the MG 151/20 ? ohmy.gif That's a lot. Are you sure about that?

PS: Thx for the info. Could you pls list your sources? I need that for Il-2 1946 and Team Daidalos for one of the next patches.

The 350 rounds of amunition is the figure known so far.
The best source available at this moment is the book "Vanatorul IAR80, Istoria unui erou necunoscut" by Dan Antoniu and George Cicos, Editura Modelism, 2000
I recently finished the work on a new book on the IAR80 that will be published soon by SAM Publications in the UK.
Please contact me off-list.
Regards,
Radu

350 rounds for 2 MG151/20 means 175 rounds per cannon. Me-109 G had 200 rounds for it`s Motorkanone, La-5 had 200 rounds per gun.

10 IAR-81A were built in 1943, but because the germans released the Ju-87 for delivery, they were striped from their centerline bombrack and delivered as fighters (IAR-80B).

I assume you are referring to the series 291-300.
Indeed, these serial numbers were assigned to the IAR81A, but in the end they were manufactured as IAR80B.
The aircraft type was written in black on the tail above the serial number. A number of existing photographs of aircraft of this series show that they were "80" not "81".

You can safely ignore that website. Nothing new or exciting.

The data is erroneous in many places. For example, is states that the IAR81-C was armed with 2x20mm cannons and 4x7.92 machine guns.

Those are not "original drawings". They are drawings made by by Dan Iloiu in 1989 and printed in Modelism.
