Near Turnu Rosu Castle is a ww1 memorial cemetery with 3 monuments: a fountain, the cemetery and a memorial cross.
One cross speaks about 3 romanian airmen who died at 7th of october 1944: adj. sef Misu Gheorghiu, sg. Gheorghe Arhip and sg. Ioan (...). Anyone have more data about them? http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/4543/img0174nb.jpg http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/4370/img0179qq.jpg |

It's September, not October.
The crew belonged to a Ju 52/3m shot down in error by Soviat flak. The transport aircraft crashed in "Sibiu zone". I have only two names of the crew, from arhive documents: adj. sef pil. Misu Gheorghiu+, serg. mec. bord Ioan Vasile Arhip+ Gen. Dénes |

Thanks a lot!
Unfortunately, the restoration of the cross "helped" the name of the 3rd crew member to become almost invisible. Or maybe that Ioan "nameless" is "Vasile Arhip" brother with Gheorghe Arhip from the same Ju52 crew? |
