Hello, guys!

A guy I know claims that he found remains of a posible FW190 crashed in ww2 in Mureş county, close to Sărăcinul Mic river, village of Andreneasa. The area is around comuna Lunca Bradului, crash place is aprox 4 km from Sălard.

Here is a pic with what I supose are the remains of the plane:

Just for the sake of the story, was really crashed a FW190 in the area or it was another type of aircraft or another nationality, perhaps?

Any info is welcomed! Thank you in advance!

It is hard to tell for sure.
The "three spheres in a row" is a German oxygen bottle. They were usually painted blue with a white stripe around each sphere. They were also used on the FW190 and were located inside the fuselage.
The other bits are not that easy to identify. The small bits are not too clear in the photo. The large pieces of metal are also quite "generic". The "wedge" shaped piece may appear to be from the underside of the wing of a FW190, right behdind the wheel wells, but it is hard to say. Maybe some close-up photos of the smaller parts and even the larger metal pieces may help (also photos of the back).

Thanks, Radub. Do you have any sugestion what to photo from another angle or what piece is more relevant?

Is there any database which could reveal what plane was downed there? From other topics I know that a lot of flights and combat missions were very well documented on papers and usually the identity of the plane and pilot was revealed.

More info is welcomed! smile.gif

Any other photo will help. The problem is that they look "generic" so far and it is hard to figure out what is what. More detail is needed, anything that you think worthy of notice. A dataplate, a manufacturer's stamp, etc. would be ideal.
To identify the aeroplane, more info is needed, such as date (and year) of the crash, was the pilot killed (where was he buried?), did he survive (was he rescued or captured?), was it shot down and if so by whom (Romanian or Russian)? Can the locals tell anything about the event?

The locals just reused as much metal they could from the plane and gave the engine to scrap metal. No story provided by them. A story was provided about an american airplane (probably figther) downed in Deda, Mureş county. The american pilot was made POW by hungarian army. My friend didnt tell if this US plane has any conection with the german plane remains he found.

I asked for more detailed photo and maybe details from the villagers about german plane.

That was most probably a P-51 Mustang shot down on 31 August 1944.

Denes, can you identify the german plane and it's pilot?

Thanks for the info about US plane. Can you identify also the american pilot?

From this plane were also recovered some pieces, if one is interested, please let me know and I'll try to ask for photos of them.

At the crash site, there were also found ammo cal. 13 and 20 mm, all german made, all blown up by explosion, probably when the plane crashed.

Here are more photos with the pieces of the german aircraft. For me is only scrap metal, but for you might be a clue for identify the plane, so I put them all here:

Could the german plane be from Gurghiu airfield, which was aprox 10 minutes distance from Andreneasa, the crash site? It might be crashed in the fall of 1944, after some accounts.

I can see a drop tank carrier rack there. This type was mostly associated with the Messerschmitt Bf.109.
Interesting...

What about the armament, 13 mm and 20 mm, is this specific to a certain type of german fighter plane or is generic?

The guns were generic. But the gun mounts and ammunition boxes were specific. If you have the gun mounts, it may help. The FW190 carried 13mm guns on the nose and 20mm cannons in the wings. The Bf109 carried 13mm guns on the nose and a 20mm cannon behind the engine.
The large wedge-shaped piece and the oval hatch are almost certainly from a FW190. The hinge piece appears to be from a FW190 flap. I am a bit confused by the Bf109 drop tank carrier rack (third photo of the post posted on July 29, 2011 06:33 pm)
There may be the remains of two aircraft there.

Thanks for the info! If you have a final decision between FW or Messer, please let me know. It's just for the sake of the story, to know what that guy found. smile.gif

(these are the only pieces found, there is no story in the area about 2 planes crashed there).
