Translation (one time favor): The Soviets did not confiscated more radar equipped Bf-110, because they were useless to them and they could not copy anything. The electronic equipment of the "Fug" radar was designed as interconnected modules. The vacuum tubes were covered in aluminum – they operated in high frequency. In each module (subsystem) there was a trap designed as vacuum tube, looking like the surrounding ones, but being like a grenade exploding if removed from their pins support. In spite of the initial intention of the German electronic designers this tamper proof system generated incidents. Thus another tamper proof system was designed: After the typical adjustment and tuning in of each module, impregnation resin was poured over electronic components. After the resin cured, it was impossible to remove it, because it became a hard material. They (the Soviets) eventually copied the system after they conquered the land including the manufacturing company. This post has been edited by Florin on November 05, 2012 08:04 am |
