Unlike the US MACR's you are well familiar with, the Russian
stuff rarely put details on their MACRs, as such this is not something available and would been very useful now. I agree with all your comments regarding Kurrier Staffel and the rush evasives....though I doubt that they would confuse a date....it doesn't fit the German precision. One side remark though, on Aug 31 the 31st FG escorted 12 B-17's to Popesti Leordeni for the airlifting in connection with Ops Reunion....to my knowledge the 52nd was at Reghin and not 31st....and 52nd caught the Luftwaffe with the pants down. 52nd received a citation from Twining for the Reghin sweep. Hi,
On the 8 (7?) of September 1944 soviet planes “Boston” or “Havoc” ( probably from VVS ChF) flew over the POW camp for American and Allied POWs near city of Shumen ( Shumla) Bulgaria ( and over North-East Bulgaria) and dropped leaflets with the appeal of General Tolbukhin. Any info ( incl. pic’s) about planes, crews… etc. will be appreciated…Best regards |

Mayby doesn't fit the german precision but how about soviet precision, are you sure about the date considering that Russian MACR are not like US MACR I noticed that some romanian combat report after 23 august 44 ( in Transilvania) not matching the date of german reports for the same fights. |

Stan
This was the same squadron 244 BAD BBC ( VVS) which flew from Balti earlier on to drop supplies to Tito partizans on Aug 25,1944 escorted by a bunch of YAK-9DD which ended up landing at Bari for a round trip to Italy. These were not BMF A-20's , though BMF A-20G's performed recon over Varna from Gelenjik Naval Air Station . Cantacuzino....you are right Russian reports and generally Russian aviation history are so confused that even the Russians historians dont understand it well. This post has been edited by yugit on September 08, 2011 12:51 pm |
