I'm curios if Romanian airplanes succed to sink any soviet ship?

There are several Rumanian claims, filed during the siege of Odessa in 1941; however, it's very hard to discern if the very few Soviets ships sunken in that period were due to ARR or Luftwaffe action. Most probably, ARR did not sink any sizeable Soviet ship.

In the book "Hidroaviatia Romaniei" (authors Cristian Craciunoiu , Aurel Pentelescu, Jipa Rotaru) is published that: "In anul 1941 totalul misiunilor de razboi a fost de 586 iesiri de hidroavion, cu 1711 ore de zbor , ca in anul urmator , 1942 practic sa se dubleze 905 iesiri hidroavioane, cu 2118 ore de zbor. Rezultatele obtinute in acesti aproape doi ani asupra inamicului :
( Sursa Arh. M. Ap. N., fondul Statului Major al Aerului, dosarul 545, f.264-265.)" These were the claimes filed only by the ARR seaplane crews.
Additionally, land based bombers and recce aircraft, particularly Blenheims, also claimed a number of Soviet ships. The issue is how to verify the actual sinking of a matching number of Soviet ships. Gen. Dénes |

As far as i know the IAR 81 flew at lest to misions against soviet ships in Odessa harbour damaging two ships, but without sinking anyone of them
And during 42-44 IAR 81 and IAR 39 were carying bombs during their patrol misions or escort misions over the sea routes This post has been edited by sebipatru on September 12, 2011 06:19 am |
