I finally collected my copy today after several weeks of nail chewing after ordering it. Made a quick dash in town for it today , couldn't wait for the next couple of days !

I am very happy with what i've seen , what can i say , a most lovely and well done job to mr. Brinzan and his collaborators. I am most pleased to see alot more pics i haven't seen so far, you know that saying, a picture worth a thousand words. The plans and all the little details are also brilliant. ( even if me i'm not into modeling )

Kindly recommended to anyone interested on not in the IAR-80 subject, you'll love it !

Of course since i'm a very fussy "reader" myself, i do have to point a few things. biggrin.gif

First, well you can start throwing things after me , but i'm sure i can see a tailplane strut in the prototype picture . Unless it' some wacky light reflection play, i think it does have struts. If i'm actually talking nonsense i most deeply apologize.

Second, that performance table at end ...think i actually picked on this subject before , but just find it hard to believe that all the versions have exactly the same top speed.

A few spelling mistakes here and there too (obviously that has nothing to do with the quality of the book. Guess it happens almost in any book.)

I hope my "criticism" is not taken the wrong way, it is a lovely, well done book, it should be on the shelf of every aviation enthusiasts really ( especially romanian!). It is also another big piece of the puzzle, the story of the IAR-80.

I could say i'm grateful to live in these times. smile.gif

Thanks for our kind words.

I guess that the "tailplane strut" issue is related to the scale drawing of the prototype. I did not draw it, it was drawn by Teodor Liviu Morosanu along with the drawing of the in-line engine I.A.R.80. But to be fair to him, that drawing is immensely more than we had before. A missing strut must not detract from the fact that without this drawing, you would know far less about how the prototype looked.

The table with the performance data is based on information provided by Dan Antoniu and George Cicos. I did not have access to any other data. But one thing that you keep in mind is that the data included in there is "nominal". Some airframes exceeded it, some never reached it.

A very small number of niggling spelling (and other) mistakes managed to appear in the book. The book was "redacted" by the studio that did the page setting and they messed a few Romanian words.
I hope that you will be able find 1000 "good" bits in the book for each "bad" bit.

Oh i did found much more than 1000 "good" bits for any little "bad" bit, alot more , that's for sure (in fact i'll go give your book another read before bedtime ). But I guess the little issues i raised is something to be sorted in a future book!

The only nagging issue about the few spelling mistakes here and there is the one refering to dates , i meen f.e. you and i know that the tests of 326 occured in 1943 , but someone who wouldn't be too intimate with the IAR-80 subject would take 1944 as granted . That detail is the only one jumping in my eyes. But really i'm just splitting hairs here, sorry.

Btw loved that DB-605 powered aircraft drawing, even provisional. One can hope a little bit more will surface about that mysterious aircraft one day.

No doubt Mr. Morosanu's work is fantastic , it's been sad news to hear about his early death . I guess we can value now even more his legacy. Also , hearing Mr. Cicos passed away aswell ...that kinda takes away all the euphoria really. RIP.

Again, i love this book . And it's actually a quite a unique priviledge to be able to talk it out with it's author . The wonders of internet.

Yeah, it was 1943. That text was sliced and shrunk by the page-setting studio... They messed up a few bits in the process. I missed that during the proofing. I just checked my own text on my computer and it was 1943 in the text I sent.
The book was planned and designed by me in a slightly different format and was intended to be much bigger. The publisher wanted to have the book reduced to 128 pages. Some parts were kept out, but I had to fight really hard to have some parts included, while some parts were included only after a lot of insistance - that explains for example why the seatbelts section is where it is (and only 1/4 of my initial manuscript on that particular subject).
I am not sure about a reprint... We shall see...

Well, as the end user, i probably know nothing about the difficulties of writing such a book , but me , and i'm sure others will agree , will crave for a reprint with all the stuff you were forced to leave out. Every little helps ( in piecing together the IAR-80 history), as they say around here.

very nice, congratulations for the effort of bringing some life into a piece of history that most forgot.

nice pics, lots of drawings, a "must have" for plane enthusiasts.

all we lack now is a flying IAR80... wink.gif

I received my copy of Radu's book this morning and what a reference book it is. Not stuffy as some can be but precise clear and informative. I really like the mix of factory drawings, scale drawings, photographs and colour profiles highlighting model changes and modifications. The collection of so much information on what until recently was almost a mythical aircraft can have been no mean task. To present it all in such a way as Radu has is equally impressive. Finally a book worthy of this most able fighter. Thank you Radu!
