Hello! The photo above is originated from a photo album of Wehrmacht soldier.

Any chance to tell from this photo where is this cemetery exactly located?

This is enlarged fragment of the grave gross to a soldier of Regiment 83 (I guess Infantry Regiment 83 in 20th Infantry Brigade). Note that there are two dates on the cross – the first one is 1943 and second is 19/8/1942. How this can be explained?

Another enlarged fragment from this photo. Is this a birth date goes first – 1928? If so he was 14 years old when he died in 1942? Any thoughts on this?

thanks in advance for any help on this!

Best regards,

The man was part of the 1943 draft contingent, but was killed in august 1942. He was drafted one year ahead of the normal peacetime setting.

In november 1942 the 83rd Romanian Infantry Regiment was deployed somewhere at Stalingrad. I wonder were it could be in august 1942...maybe it crossed the Don at 7th of August 1942, with the entire 20th Romanian Infantry Division to which it use to belong? Between 15th and 18th of August 1942 the division fought on Aksay area, so the graveyard could be in the surroundings of Stalingrad.
