I would like more detailed information about the German ground formations provided during the siege of Odessa under Lieutenant-General René von Courbier.
Wikipedia says the Germans provided 10 Battlions of Hvy Art starting after Sept 3rd, yet on this site i read the Artillery was in place for the begining of the offensive starting on Aug 28th which would mean they arrived prior to this start date. 5 Hvy Bns. subordinated to 4th Corp 5 Hvy Bns. subordinated to 11th Corp 1 Hvy Bn subordinated to 1st Corp from the left flank of 11th Corp (is this an 11th German Art. Bn. or just one of the five providing fire support for 1st Corp? These German artillery units were supposed formed into 2 Regts. can anyone provide me with the parent orginization of them? also the individual Bn. numbers and composition? Wikipedia also mentions that a German Inf. Regt. and Pioneer Regt. arrived, yet on this site i can only find one mention of a German Assault Bn. being assigned to 11th Corp for the Aug 28 attack. Can someone provide me with the correct Regt. & Bn. numbers for these units and the dates of arrival at the front? There is also mention of artillery ammunition shortages, was this for both Romanian & German or just Romanian Art. units? Did the germans ever send any railroad siege artillery to help with the reduction of Odessa in 1941? This post has been edited by Fulger on December 16, 2012 04:24 am |
