On 30 September 1934 at the headquarters of the Aerostation I Flotilla (Flotila 1 Aerostatie), the Pantelimon Fort, was baptized the first dilatable balloon built at the flotilla plant. The name given was “Capitan Aerostier Vitzu Mihail” in memory of the aerostier who had the most famous activity during the WWI.
Since the WWI up to 1934 the Romanian aerostation used the Caquot type R balloon, with constant volume, which was also built in Romania since 1924. Few technical details for the dilatable balloon: At ground level: At 2000 m: Circumference: 24.8 m 27.37 m Diameter: 7.78 m 8.71 m Volume: 900 mc 1100 mc The information is taken from the Aeronautica 1934 magazine (the picture is similar), the article is written by C-dor. N.G. Manolescu the Commander of this flotilla, at that moment. http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/2819/balloonf.jpg Alexandru |

Thanks for this info! Searching on the net for Vitzu Mihail, I found that Demostene Rally also received Michael the Brave Order cls. III (during ww1).
