Gents,

FYI, some new snippets from my collection dedicated to ARR.

1. A smarty looking ARR pilot, wearing the German Pilot badge, in stoff, padded version.

Next, two pics showing ARR airmen, decorated with Soviet awards, quite interesting...

They are Adj. av. Gheorghe Grecu and Adj. stag. av. Pavel Vieru, both of Esc. 66 van., Gr. 2 van.

They sport the Soviet Red Banner medal, which they received for shooting down - acting on Soviet order - one of their own, namely an ARR Hs 129B, flown by Adj. av. Dumitru Marinescu, who tried to defect to the Germans on 9 Febr. 1945.

I published a photo of these two airmen, along with the story, in my book on Rumanian aces, published by Osprey, p. 64.

Oo ! I supose these two airmen will have a brilliant future after the end of the war ?! A kind of "elemente sanatoase" caracterisation ... wink.gif

On 14 feb. 1945 a message was sent by radio from Bukarest to Wiena:

Soon, the victims were moved to sov. hospital under carefully survey.

Nothing very clear about their fate.

From the book, questioning Schmidt, he declared to "Smersh" a lot of things… he pointed for Avramescu, Dragomir, Aldea, Rădescu, Negulescu, Penescu, Stănescu, Brătianu, Maniu…

… a letter from the fugitive pilot Marinescu. That letter stated that the time he was in the romanian hospital, Marinescu heard that they had been felled at russians’ order, claiming they are germans. This was a reason for Marinescu to run, before Shmidt and Stoicănescu be sent to russian Debrecen mil hospital.

About Marinescu, nothing found. It is possible, latter he was arested by romanians.

Adj. av. Dumitru Marinescu, a well known Rumanian 'asaltist', also ended up in Soviet prison for 10 (?) years, then upon return to Rumania, he was imprisoned there, too, again for about 10 years. He eventually survived both ordeals.

Apparently, all this was either national-socialist (legionary) - coordinated by the Romanian National Government in Wienna - or Soviet/communist propaganda, because both interests coincided in this episode, for the first to boost their propaganda after the general's disparition, and for the others to justify it. Take a look here for more facts (unfortunalely only in Romanian): http://www.historia.ro/exclusiv_web/genera...-dr-petru-groza

Anyone knows how the two passengers were carried in the sleek fuselage of Hs 129 plane? One is possible in the cockpit ( as some romanian and germans pilots saved their comrades). But the second ? The route from Brasov to Wiener Neustadt is long and hard without a minimum comfort cool.gif

One person could climb into the fuselage through the radio hatch, for sure. This is how one of the top 'asaltisti', T. Zabava, travelled back to the front line when the Hs 129 crashed, killing both men. Possibly, there was room in the fuselage for another person as well, but I cannot confirm.
