Hello friends,
I'm Aleksandar Milosevic, from Belgrade, Serbia. I have plans to go to Timisoar in few week and i'm a big fan of military aviation. Can you say me, is there any place in Timisoar where i can see some military planes? I found on internet, that there are some planes(MiG-23 in Timişoara Airport "Traian Vuia", but don't know can i see them or i need some special pass to enter in that part of airport? Here you are link, where i found this planes(and pics of them!) http://www.airplane-pictures.net/airport.p...creen_timestamp In the end, i need to say sorry, because i open this topic on this forum(this is WW2 forum), but i didn't find any other forum with some informations about Romanian military planes on English. Best regards, Aleksandar. This post has been edited by Sall on January 31, 2014 02:31 pm |

About the MiG-23
I have seen those, but they are inside the Military Base in Timisoara so there is no public access to them, as far as I know, except when its celebrated the Day of Aviation. In Timisoara I do not know if you can see any military planes on public display, I am not aware of any. Actually there is one empty shell of a MiG-23 (I think it is) posted on a sort of concrete tower, inside the city, but that is hardly something to go visit. Hope this helps. These are the coordinates from Google Maps: 45.718986 , 21.200128
The plane is situated near Calea Sagului street in Timisoara. The street is an exit street from Timisoara, and some 500 meters before exiting the city you cross a bridge - from that bridge one can see that empty shell / plane. Hope this helps. |

A couple of corrections are needed: The more accurate position is 45.4308N by 21.1200E. If you go in Street View on Strada Ceferistilor corner with Strada Secerii you can see the plane across the railway tracks.
In Google Earth, search for "Strada Ceferistilor, Timisoara" and that should take you close enough to it. The plane is not a MiG-23, it is a I.A.R.93. The MiG-23 planes on Giarmata airport can be seen here https://groups.google.com/a/googleproductfo...z?part=3&view=1 If the link does not work search in Google Earth for "Giarmata, Timis". It may be worthwhile to contact the airport and seek permission to get close to these planes. http://www.aerotim.ro/index.php?pg=contact Radu |
