Finding decorations, where to find decorations

Hi to all!

I'm new to this forum, I'm very impressed of you guys.
I tried to find the answer to my question, but I couldn't, so here I am.

My grand-father fought in the WW2 in the Eastern front. He received some medals, I don't know which ones, and I would like to find out. He is dead since 2005, but I never asked him about those years, and now I'm sorry. My family don't know these details, eather.

Do you know how can I find out where and in which conditions he was decorated? Maybe a data base exists with the names of the soldiers decorated?

Any info/document/contact would be appreciated.
