I have been working with my father trying to find information on his two uncles who served in the Romanian Army in World War 2. They were born in around 1912 and 1916, and raised in Iaslovat Romania. My dad's mother lived in Canada and was told after the war that her two brothers were missing in action at the battle of Iasi. She did not know when they joined the army, or any particulars about what happened in the Iaslovat/Suceava County during the war, and died not knowing what happened to her brothers. My father and I have been trying to find information but to no avail. Any suggestions as to where we would find such information would be greatly appreciated.

Their names were Gheorge and Vasile Cociorvan (last name has also been spelled Cocervan, Coceorvan and other variations).

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I emailed the ONCE website but haven't heard anything at this point. I do have photos which we think may be my father's uncles in uniform. I will get them from him and post them.

I really appreciate your help. Thanks so much!

I think you'll have to call them, email will not suffice because I've heard they don't respond to electronic mail.

These are the only photos of my father's uncles taken between 1938 - 1942. By looking at the uniform, can you tell anything about them? As I said in my previous post, they are from Suceava County (originally from Iaslovat).

By looking at the uniforms, could anyone tell me anything about them? My father said they were with the Romanian army and probably were enlisted in approximately 1938 - 1941. He said as they were young, probably farmers, they would most likely have been foot soldiers and would have been maybe privates and wouldn't have any ranks. These are all speculations...and we do not know what regiments they would have been. A friend of his mother had said the last time they were seen was the battle of Iasi, so it was assumed they died in the battle.

By looking at the uniforms of the photos I previously posted, does this seem to align with what we heard?

In the first image the uniforms are M1933, the bayonets are for the Mannlicher M1895 rifle. Both seem to have the rank of „caporal” (en: corporal), on the caps they have the number 69 that stands for the 69th Infantry Reserve Regiment from Suceava that was active between 1932 and 1938 when it was disbanded, so the photo is taken somewhere between 1933 and 1938.

In the second photo we have what I believe its an NCO, I can't see any rank stripes in his shoulders but he wears a NCO M1933 cap and M1933/35 uniform (with applied pockets) that was initially worn only by mountain hunters and Guard units, technically the photo could be taken anywhere between 1935 and 1944 but I believe its more like 1935 and 1940.
