Hello friends,
we are looking for more details about the action at Harsova on 24.-26.08.1944. In those days there were some german vessels taken by Romanian forces int this port but were again taken on 26.08. by the Gruppe Zieb and maybe self destroyed. We have the following names: -FW 16, -FW 17, -"432" (Pionierfähre of the Pionier-Landungs-Btl. 214), -3 Pionierlandungsboote (Pioneerlanding craft) of the same Pi.Ldgs.Btl. 214, -maybe some more ex austrian vessels. The Marinefährprahm "F 576" was also destroyed in this action. We have a topic here: http://www.forum-marinearchiv.de/smf/index...ic,23467.0.html and need your help with any information from Romanian sources. Thank you Darius |

Hallo Darius.
Unfortunately romanian sources are lacking. Some time ago I posted adapted translations from some german web pages. And other romanian informations : http://www.worldwar2.ro/forum/index.php?showtopic=189&st=0 http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?p=362723 http://www.si-games.com/forums/archive/ind...t-6409-p-7.html http://www.polpi.net/neue%20geschichten.htm This post has been edited by Petre on March 09, 2015 05:01 pm |

I have a question. has been said here on forum that on August 26, 1944 was a battle between romanian and german army at Cernavoda. It talks about the 6390 KIA for the romanian army 480 KIA for the german army.
These figures are real? If are real then it would mean that at Cernavoda on 26/08/1944 was one of the greatest disasters for the Romanian army as in Oarba de Mures. In some articles it speaks in articles about the fact that the Romanian army captured at that time in Cernavoda about 10500 german soldiers that is hard to belive . |

I think the first step would be to check if there were as many Romanian troops around Cernavoda in those days as to afford to lose 6390 people from the total number. Personally I am skeptical. I am very well aware that the Cernavoda bridge was a strategic objective, but in those days there were many other locations that needed every soldier that the Romanian command could possibly muster, and the Romanian army was limited in numbers, having from start 120,000 soldiers surrendering in Moldavia and lost for any action. As I remember, the post Victor, August 10, 2003 was an official report of Ro. Navy Staff.
Somebody wrote about the first fights at Piua Petrii, that is somewhere near Hârşova, but today is missing. |
