Song of the Mountain Troops

I am very much interested in Romanian Army Songs, so I would like to know if anyone has heard
the Song or March of the Mountain Troops...

It goes like this... (in Romanian) .."Sus pe crestele abrupte, unde vulturu-i stapin, urca vinatori de munte.... - Which means: "High on top of the cliff, where the Eagle Reigns...climb the mountain troops..."

A very neat songs, beautyfull music and text (unfortunately I don't know it all so help me if you know this song).
The complete text is impossible to find anywhere on the internet, and so are the other Army songs (of which we have many!)

Thank you for the help- If you have a list of songs together with text I would like to know about it!

Yes, it's a beautiful song, I heard it sang by some army chorus. Unfortunately I don't know where to find the lyrics either but I will look for them.

Meanwhile, though I'm certain you know the lyrics, another beautiful song, especially when soldiers sing it:

You can download a variant here (sang not strictly in a military manner but quite pleasant). The first 3 strophes (which are the core of the song anyway) are almost identical with the lyrics I posted, the last 2 are missing and instead you have an introductory theme. When I find some more time I will translate the lyrics though, as for any other poem, a direct translation has its limitations.

1. I wanna know if someone remember this song: (dont know his real name/ nevertheless it was used on the soundtrack of an comunist era ww2 movie/ dont know the movie title eather, most probably it was directed by Nicolaescu, it is maybe "We are the ones who fight in the first line", but I'm not sure..) :)

i really do want to hear it again..I have searched for it, not knowin'at first that is impossible to find romanian army songs and marches on www, kazaa and lists and finaly i was sadly forced to surrender. I do not believe enymore that there is somehow a tinny little chance that this song exists somewere.
or, maybe..Should i believe? Someone..?

2. Another beautifull song who was played by the romanian soldiers on the eastern theatre is: "Holly youth of the legionaires" ("Sfanta tinerete legionara"). You can download it from : http://pages.prodigy.net/nnita/cantece-leg...e-cuvantari.htm ; there are also a few others songs overthere, but this one was surely played in the field: My grandfather, Lt. Gheorghe Botiza (from an artillery unit garrisoned near Turda) sang it with his comerades, and neither of them were green shirts. I do not supose, but corectly asume then, that the soldiers of his battery were not the single ones in the hole royal army who played this song. He simply told me that: "it was just a beautifull song to play".
Most of the other songs, he remember they played during sparetime or on the road were native ones, from the Turda regional border area, and most of them have love as a theme.

i advice the download of the orchestral version, the chorus one is lame.

*The song you are talking about is our World War 1 anthem "Treceti Batalioane Romane Carpatii", (Cross the Carpathians, Romanian Batallions). - If you look carefully ..2 posts above this one you will see the song your were looking for translated in English by "inahurry ", who is also very much interested in such songs like I am.


Listen, you can find your song on Kazaa - You just need to know where to look! ... :wink: ... Search for "Treceti Batalioane Romane Carpatii", and you will certainly find it. There is the version sung by Natiional singer Stefan Hrusca (I met him in Canada and shook hands with him after he sung this song to a Romanian audience and moved it to tears) -
* Most likely you will find it sung by Vasile Seicaru, - look for his songs on Kazaa ..I guarantee you will find it - that's where I got it..

*I you want the "Army Version" buy the CD "Geto-Dacul" posted here, or contact me and I'll send you the song. :idea:

PS*:I have alot of WW2 songs too, German Russian and Romanian.
The German's make the best "Marches" there is no doubt about it, ...while the Russians make the best "Choirs" and 'frightening songs' like "There march the Soldiers" (look for it on Kazaa), the Red Army Choir is World famous. The Romanians make both good songs and marches, I hope the thread with the Songs and Marches of the Romanian army will help you.

It is indeed: "Treceti batalioane romane Carpatii". I excuse for the possible annoyment caused by my mistake..I promiss i'll let the forum know when i'll recall witch was the low frequency on wath my brain was set when ive searched for it. :)
I will be greatfull if you'll send me the army version as an atachment to my mail upposted. I have allredy downloaded Stefan Hrusca's version . If I may, can u send me also the March of the Mountain Troops?

Indeed the germans had some of the best marches in the war.. and my favourite is "Ich hatte einen kameraden", it's an very emotive funeral march, played by the drums and chorus of the 1'st LSSAH division (who fought near by the south side of the 3'th Romanian army in the advance on the Crimeean istmus) in front of the people standing on the sidewalks at 18 october 1944, in the ocasion of the Erwin Eugen Rommel passing funeral chariot.
I also prefere the italian "Caro Papa" it's a sensitive letter send from Abisinia by an italian Balilla, to his old father, left at home. (other beautifull italian songs are the "Giovinezza" or "Facetta Nerra", the last one it's also, I may call it so, very "sexy": about an black abisinian girl who impaciently awaits in sheaver the arrival of her black shirts "liberators"):)
In my opinion the best russian remains the lovable "Kathyusha" (i also have the finnish and the red italian partisans versions).
best english song is "D-Day Dodgers", an 8'th army song, fighting in Italy, and it's an acuse directed against the home female politician Lady Astor, who ironicaly nickname them from the tribune of the british parliament as the D-day Dodgers, like they traded the Normandy landings for an vacation in the sun of Italy.
Best finnish war song is: "Jaakarimarssi" (the march of the 27'th hunters regiment, the elite of the finnish army, in witch general Mannerheim also fought in the 1917, independence war.
Best Franco spanish ww2 song is "El Camerada" (the spanish version of the wermacht's ich hatte einen cameraden) in witch the blue division national guards comemorated their deads on the russian front. (I also have the french foreign legion version, brought by legionaires of german nationalty, who joined her ranks in masses in the aftermath of the war)
My favourite american anthem is Glenn Miller's Air Corp Anthem.. but as wartime songs i enjoy "Praise the lord and pass the ammunition", "You're a sap mister Jap" or "GoodBye mama, I'm off to Yokohama".
