If you can find the characteristic of those EFT transistors (I believe they Romanian transistors made at Curtea de Arges before 1990), it shouldn't be hard to find some other transistors with similar charateristics. You can also go to small electronic parts shops. You just might find what you are looking for.
From what I could see from the "How to build a metal detector" page cipiamon posted, the guy used BC183 transistors, which from what I can tell from its datasheet could very well be replaced by a common BC107. The only difference is that the BC107 has a smaller Icmax (0.1 A instead of 0.2 A), but I don't think that ithe circuit operates at currents higher that 100 mA. |

The metal detector plans that I had posted earlier were from "Din creatia tehnico-stiintifica a pionierilor" printed before 1980. Most parts were used then at radio's and tv sets.

Currently there is a metal detector offered on eBay for 49 Euros, that reportedly can sense metal objects up to 2 m deep:

People let's NOT forget that possesing a metal detector whitout papers isn't permited in Romania.
If I'd had a metal detector I would take the risc not to declare it |

I used to have a cheap metal detector but all I ever found was junk and old metal trash.

That depends on where you live. If you live near a WW2 battlefield you might find something interesting. |

I just found two pictures from last year.
It seems that the soldier was german. I found that by comparing the boots and the two buttons I found with information on the internet. Unfortunately I can't find that website now. -------------------- ~
