QUOTE (Dénes @ Apr 26 2005, 04:07 PM)
Currently there is a metal detector offered on eBay for 49 Euros, that reportedly can sense metal objects up to 2 m deep

Gen. Dénes

2 meters I think is way over the amateur league here...
With 2 meters depth I think we'd find neolithic metal or something... laugh.gif

I wanted to go digging this weekend but the weather is so bad....

Digging as in trying your luck, or digging after metal-detecting? biggrin.gif

p.s. I remember seeing Nicolaescu on Tv long long time ago boasting with his collection of battlefield objects he had found. Some swords or something. Do you think he had the necessary paperwork? Are we allowed to keep what we find?

The old saying "finders keepers' isn't in the Romanian government's mind...or the laws. If you find guns, ammo, shells, mines, or other kind of military objects that can be harmful or dangerous if they aren't handeled with extreme care the Romanian state won't let you keep'em. If you don't declare them, and a "good" frined tell's the police you have'em you're in big trouble.

Great photos and great discovery Boony!
Disd you find the whole scheleton ,or just fragments?
All I see in the photos ,some ribs, vertebs a femur and skulls fragments?

I found the whole skeleton, only with his boots and 3 metal buttons. The skull was crushed. I found him by luck, his boot was out of the ground at the side of the road.

Wow... then you were quite lucky finding that skeleton.
The only thing I found by sheer luck was a 15 Bani rusty coin from the communist era... at my grandparent's house. I'd never try my luck searching for that in a wide field... laugh.gif

p.s. you should have reported that skeleton to the police. maybe it was a recent crime... tongue.gif

The corpse was reported to the police. They said it's from the war.

I have some news smile.gif
Last week i went to the forest near Bolintin Vale, is a big forest at the west side of the city. I was reading a book about the history of Bolintin and there it said something about an old church that was found recent in that area. I went to see it, but the monks that came in the zone after the founding did not what to reveal the location of the curch remains. unsure.gif anyway, after seaching the sorowndings i did not find anything, it was full of insects [tantari]

But when it was time to leave i was kind of pissed off, i did not see anything old smile.gif and as i was in the car whit my frind the driver, i decided to open the door as we were speeding whit 30 km/h on the roads of the ancint forest and put the metal detector verry near the ground, maby maby i will detect something... and after a while what do you know... it did smile.gif we stopd the car i went out, in the back where i detected the metal object i start diging in the middle of the road.

6-7 cmm in the ground i found something like a pipe, like a barell of a gun... verry rusted and ripped at the both extremities. I took it at home, i washed, the rust was verry much, i decidet to kick it whit a hammer and the rust begin to came off.
It wasn't a pipe nor a barrel of a gun, it was muuch stranger, a metal cilinder 20cmm filled inside whit a metal core striped to one the side, in section it would look like this:

is all made from metal, i not sure i described verry clear, anyway i lost my digital camera, and all i have now is scanner but i think i need to reinstall windows in order to use it again... after that i will scan a hi resolution image of the object.

After a brief description on the phone, Cantacuzino said it could be a "baston incendiar".

Any opinions?
