In the same place I found all the other stuff i've presented in this thread, in a forest near Iasi.
I've used a handheld metal detector, The kind it's used in airports. It's not very good, only 1-3 cm in depth. -------------------- ~

What regions are you looking for? The thread that was shown is good. Have about 40 maps, 7 book and photos. In-laws have finally decided to go back to Iais, Romania to visit parents. Wife isn't going but asked me if I wanted. Might be good to get out to dig finally since I'll be able to make it. As for the police searching, act like university students doing research and keep things hidden about 30-40 yards away at most. |

View of a civilian shooting range in Chisinau, Moldova Republic. Many relics on display, and a normal, relaxed atitude regarding guns for civilians, different for the Romania one... |

In Chisinev and the R of Moladova, you are not safe even in your house. It is dangerous to drive at night.
Belive me Cristian, you are by all means an experst in guns, but you don't have the ideea how is to live in a country where ALL has arms... In my childhood, even my father ,who is a extremly pacifist person, had for a short time an M 16 and for a long time an M 14. Crimes are all over, and no one is safe anymore. I would like very much to have a Martini-Henry or Lee-Eanfield at home, but thinking that all the local mafia will be armed to the teeths gives me nightmares! |

I did not know you spent your childhood in Chisinev, and you know the real life there so well!
But my link is related to a LEGAL indoor range ,where any LEGAL gun owner can shoot safely, not to the ILLEGAL gun crime. |

C-2, the name of the city is Chisinau in Romanian. And not everyone has a weapon, quite the contrary. There are many poor people, even more than in Romania. The difference is that the criminals there are armed to the teeth, unlike in Romania were criminals aren't as aggressive.
But this has absolutely nothing to do with the original topic and you should get back on track. |

Cammon,
I did spent a few weeks in Chisinau, not my childhood! How could my father have an M14/16 in the soviet union.? A LEGAL gun possesor is a rich gipsy a street nearby ,who lives in a 500.000Euro house, and every time he gets drunk,he gets out of the house with his hunting rifle and threats the people around. What does the police? They can do nothing. He has hight ranking conections. About those LEGAL gun posesors I'm talking. Sorry of getting out of the topic. |

If ww2 battle sites are not so common in Romania there are some very well known ww1 battlefields that can be worth cheking.
For those of you in Bucharest I remember that when i was a child we used to play in Politehnica campus in Militari and some found small ammunition. I have no ideea what type it was, but it looked modern. If you'r interested I'll post more detailes about were that ammmo was found. In the area is Drumul Taberei of Tudor Vladimirescu fame and the site of 1848 Dealu' Spirii battle and even the name of the neighbourhood is army related. |

Long before the Politehnica Campus was built, there was an ammo factory and also ammo depots. I heard stories about shells being dug up during the construction of that campus.

If you want to find old amo in the ground , go into a bigger german town ...for example ... Köln , and dig a hole in a park!Maybe you are so lucky and you will find a 500 kg bomb!
This is no joke!!! This post has been edited by b737 on January 03, 2006 11:44 am |

The area of the main campus of the Politehnica University in Bucharest used to belong to the Army before the WW2, as did the present-day Drumul Taberii, Timisoara and Militari neighbourhoods. Even today, over the Maniu Boulevard, opposite the campus, there are still military barracks. The area near the Leu statue used to house the Arsenal, the Engineer Officer School, the Air Force Officer School etc. The Leu campus shares one fence with the barracks of the 30th Guard Regiment and a frontier-guard (or border police) unit. The main building of ROMARM is also in the area, as is the Ground Forces' General Staff and the Military Academy. The ruins of the old Cotroceni airfield are also there. Practically the city developped in an army camp and isolated the groups of buildings. |

I saw in the news, a year or two ago, about some gypsies that had taken a horse carriege, full of ww2 unexploded ammo found in Cernica forest, thru Bucharest's streets to a Remat for recycling. Had no ideea that in Politehnica was an ammo factory and some depots. Is possible that their remains to be in the forested area behind Pumac? I always wondered what this solid concrete structures are from. |
