Before the capture of Odessa in 1941, Squadron 13 of the Romanian Air Force's Flotilla 2 attacked Pavlinca Airport. An aircraft type IAR80 fitted for light bombing, crewed by Alexandru Giurgiu, Alexandru Duta and Ioan Petrescu, returned in flames, the crew members were injured.
