I have added an interview with cdor. av. Titus Axente, a Romanian Bf-110 pilot in the Interviews section of my other site.
Victor Nitu: Sir, you were a Bf-110 pilot. Please tell us how a mission went by. Titus Axente: We took off from Otopeni airfield, from the concrete runaway. There were several Freya-Wurzburg (I think 7) across Romania. All had Roman names: Brutus, Tiberius etc. The command center was situated at Otopeni. They directed us to one of the stations. When we entered their designated area (the range was about 60 km) we wee guided by them to about 2 km from the target, where the onboard radar became effective. But we never entered in contact with the British. Claudiu Stumer: Why? Titus Axente: The ground radar operators were German and they preferred to guide their Germans, not us. Plus, the communications were in German, coded. Even more difficult. Claudiu Stumer: What's your impression about the aircraft? Titus Axente: It was a very good aircraft. We flew on the C and F versions. We learned to fly on the Bf-110C and only then we passed to the Fritz, which had radar. The Germans flew on the more advanced Gustav. The Bf-110C could do aerobatics, but limited. We were not allowed to do fast rolls or spins. Only slow rolls. I did not have any problems with this aircraft. When I talked to Mr. Axente on the phone a couple of years ago, he briefly mentioned that he flew (post war) the Henschel Hs 129, too.
In the interview, did he detail his experience flying this ground assault airplane? Dénes |

Nope. He did not mention the Hs-129.

He did said he flew the 129 but not in combat mision. Dan Stoian also flew a 129 on one ocasion. |

Check the interview. There was no mention of the Hs-129 Dan Stoian flew an Hs-129 from Bucharest to brasov in early 1945. He was bringing it for repairs. |

Victor,your getting old and starting to forget;remember we did't tape all our meating with Mr.Axente?We talked about two hours with him and taped about 40 min.I asked him about the 129 and he said he flew him once.To be sure I'll call him tomorrow to verify...... |

He said he flew 17 airplanes.But if we count all the ones he mentioned we go over 19.

C-2, if you call Mr. Axente, can you ask his opinion on flying the Hs 129? Thanks.

There's not much to tell;Bouth Stoian and Axente didn't flew the 129 in combat.They transfered an aircraft from one airfield to another.I was very interested about that plane cause' I see it sort of a flying tank.Bouth pilots didn't had much to tell since the 129 they flew were "at the edge"in very poor condition(Stoian even complained he had no bord panel)And bouth said they were afraid for their life. |

When Victor will be back from his vacantion(where he's chasing girls and drinking beer)he''ll hopefuly put on the interviews with Ioan Marinciu (109) Eusebiu Hladiuk(savoia) and I'll have to finish the ones with DiCesare (109) and Traian Nicolae(Blenheim).
It all depends on how tired Victor will be when he cames back! |

Tomorow Me and Victor are going to meet a 110 pilot.
I wonder what adventures we'll have ... Generaly we are attaked by a dog or going to the wrong adress... I heard that the pilot's son and grand son are dentists :mrgreen: :mrgreen: It's going to be an experiace  |

We did it!
Not much adventures this time ,exept we were suposed to meet Mr.Boris Cap Batut at 11.15 and it was 11.10 and we did not have tape... 
Anyway ,Mr CB looks exelent for his 85 years and recived us very well

We did not ask because we knew the answer:He's from Soroca.
A lot of people in Basarabia and Bucovina has Russian family or christian names. Even Boris Backer has a russian name :laugh: :laugh: |
