Hi,
I'm also looking for maps to design for combat mission. Specifically, I am looking for a topographical map of the Odessa region, Sep-Oct 1941. The scale should be 1:50,000 or more detailed, I have 1:100,000. Access to the map by Internet or e-mail is by far the best route for me. Any suggestions? Also, I am looking for order of battle information for 4th Army in the same period, as well as actual strengths. Any suggestions on that? Thanks and congratulations on a very informative forum. Cheers, BD6 |

I have been looking for original German maps of the Odessa region for 3 years now. Wish you all the best on that one!

You can buy them from Germany - about 30 euros per map

Use Ebay, Ebay Germany and flea markets here in the US. Have been trying to get my wife to go to Germany but she knows my reasons for this and it isn't to go museum visiting.
Using the maps I have for return to Iasi later this year. |

Thanks for the advice on the maps. that's helpful. How about 4th Army's order of battle and (dare I hope) situation reports? Is that available anywhere?

This is a request for Dragos, really.
Hi - I'm planning on mapping the Soviet amphibious landing at Grigorievka on Sept 22nd 1941. This is for Red Orchestra:Ostfront. Eventually I will need images of Romanian 4th army uniforms so I can skin them but first I wonder if your excellent maps cover the rea of Grigorievka/Chubanka - I am not having much luck elsewhere. |

I'm not sure if this is what you are interested in, but this is the area around the locality marked as "Cebanka" on the Romanian war-time map, immediately north east of Odessa (scale 1:100,000)

OK - I just about worked out the scale, but I have a few more questions to assist me with making the map for RO:Ost...
1) were the artillery batteries in the map used on Sept 22nd? 2) did the Russians use naval guns to 'soften up' the shoreline before or during their assault? 3) what does the legend, "Kam" on the map signify? 4) what method of delivery for flares did the Romanian army use? Very pistols? or what? 5) what kind of seacraft were used by the Russians to land troops? If anyone could help me with these questions I would be very grateful. |

If anyone needs parts of it:
I have a very good scan of the 1943-edition of the Luftwaffe-map on my Harddrive. I can give away small parts of it - if you tell me what you need it for This post has been edited by yogy on July 24, 2006 05:03 pm |

Another thing is that under the legend for Novaia Dofinovka there is mention of:
"5-6 Batr. cu turela 20-24cm" My understanding is that these postions were held for about a month before the landings at Grigorievka (from August to Sept 1941). Were these turrets concrete? Assuming this map is pre-Sept 1941 how were concrete turrets built so quickly? What exactly would one of these turrets be? I would like to include them on my RO map but I need to know what I am dealing with here. Any help from some artillery experts would be a great help. |
