For our Bessarabia map I want to integrate the castle of Stanca, which was a strongpoint of german 79.ID during 1944 fights,
Does anyone have a picture, it is also OK via mail... I need it soon as we have to finish our work... Thanks! |

The palace no longer exists, being destroyed during the fighting in 1944. In Romanian, details here: http://www.itcnet.ro/history/archive/mi200...rrent4/mi17.htm from the April 2001 issue of Magazin Istoric. I will try to see if I have that issue and if there are any photos in it.

That would be very kind of you!
PS: Just saw that I mis-spelled Stanca in the title . EDIT: Can please someone translate the war-related stuff of this for me into english/german/french? Here is your translation for the romanian text above:
Since 1941, Anton Rosetti-Roznovanu's familly moved to Iasi. They used to come on summer-time to the castle, on it's neighbourhood the son of Anton, Niky Roznovanu build, together with his wife, Ana Bancila (daughter of artist Octav Bancila), a small house with 3 rooms, in which they will live. Unfortunatelly, Anton couldn't evacuate the valuable things, excepting some coffers with things he brought to Bucharest; this things were also bombed in Basarab railway station by Allied bombers in 4th of April 1944. For the moment Anton managed to save only 2 coffers with familly documents and jewellry, and he kept them in the house from Temisana street from Bucharest, until 1945, when he was evacuated from the house by soviet soldiers who also stole those 2 coffers. The castle from Stanca, together with the church were bombed during fight between 30th May-12th of June 1944, when german and soviet troops alternativelly conquered the village, destroying everything. From the entire building from Stanca it survived until today only the wine cellars. The bricks from castle's walls was used by villagers to built another church in the village, after 1945, in whch church were re-buried Nunuta Roznovanu and her son Emanuel. |

thank you, inf21. So it seems the castle was inside the village together with a church?
I thought it was on a "strategic" position above the valley... This post has been edited by yogy on September 06, 2007 02:02 pm |

The castle was separated from the village. It was on the top of the hill overlooking the Prut river valley.
Here is what the valley looks like from half way up the hill And here is the monument: The castle was right were the treeline is. -------------------- ~
