I need to find the following locations on a map: - satul BILICENI - Singureni and dealul Tarinei - Obileni and Sarateni - Bratuleni - Balauresti , anyone has old military maps with these locations on them ? I have an old german issued pilot map but have problems finding those (names are "germanized" and some of them seem not to be on the map). |

Interestingly, according to this MicroSoft map, Moldavia is part of the Balkan Peninsula...

Look at the worldwar2.ro homepage, there is an article written by Victor containing a map of that side and informations about the military events of 1944. The name of the article is:
Sorry, I don´t know yet how to put links in this forum. Maybe Victor can set the link. Greetings |

No, Bessarabia is clearly separate from the Balkan Peninsula. Here, because of zooming in, the labels get closer, but still, they are obviously set apart. Generally when zooming in the map shows not only the local geographical features, but also the general region. So when looking at a village in Bulgaria, Romania or Serbia, the map will maintain the label "Balkan Peninsula". -------------------- I

By 'Moldavia' I meant the NE region of Rumania. The region E of the Pruth is currently called Moldova.

Yes, sorry for that. Saw it afterwards, but left it like that, since I also pointed out that the whole of Romania is considered part of the Balkan Peninsula. (hence Moldavia too). -------------------- I

Hi Mytzu,
I found another map that might be interesting: http://www.scholtoi.de/PDF/DeutscheBessarabien.pdf "Karte deutscher Siedlungen in Bessarabien, Stand 1940", its a map of German settlements in Bessarabia of the year 1940. Greetings |

My hint was at a previous post, where some argued that the Balkans actually stops at the Danube; i.e., only Dobrudja is part of the Balkans. Gen. Dénes This post has been edited by Dénes on October 26, 2005 02:19 am |
