I was talking about the book "Istoria militara a poporului roman". I remember that Ilie (?) Ceausescu loved to coordinate the Romanian miltary history before 89. But i'm not sure. Why? Maybe for glory, nationalism, i don't know exactly.

I would add another question to this: When was the photo taken?

It's done. I have finished the Antonescu biography. We would require a better portrait of him as marshal if someone has one. The one I uploaded is of poorer quality.

... a good man. He re-installed the only form of government whith succes in Romania: military democracy. Most of romanian leaders in history - more or less - were military/dictatory/democracy leaders -> a combination of this 3. Decebal? Stefan Cel Mare? Mihai Viteazul? Some ex.
Maybe not Vlad Tzepesh (the man wrongfully identified in Occident with this stupid west style vampyre book - the vampyre Dracula)... this leader never have much in comun with democracy...
-> why romanian writers not write books in revenge - whith UK, France, US, Italy vampires? smile.gif
Sorry...

Here he wear his marshall uniform. In my oppinion Antonescu was one of the gretest leaders in the romanian history but in his context. We cannot judge them in actual terms of democracy. He wasn t a politician (the majority of romanian politicians was and still are just a band of gangsters and incompetents). He proove his military value durring the ww1.

Also we have to recognaze his great mistakes, hes exagerated atitudes, sometimes his demagogy etc. His intention of an armistice with Stalin, in the summer of '44 wasnt prooven with documents yet ...

I found this picture of young(er) Antonescu on the MAPN website. Caption reads " General Ion Antonescu, Sef al Marelui Stat Major, 01.12.1933-11.12.1934 (condamnat pentru crime de razboi) ".

QUOTE (Florin @ Mar 4 2004, 12:57 AM)
Hi,

In a closed topic, started by a forum member who died in combat (the Forum army, like any real army, may take casualties...), there was the following:

QUOTE
Or compare the number of Horthy or Szálasi statues or streets (ZERO) with the number of Antonescu's in Romania...

As we have "The thread of stupid questions", my question is:

What is wrong in having the statue of Antonescu exposed in the Romanian streets?
By the way... I am serious.

And 2nd question: It is true that at least in the past (the 50's...the 70's), there was a statue of Antonescu erected in Tel Aviv, Israel, to commemorate the fact his regime was not so harsh with the Romanian Jews?

I PERSONALLY THINK THAT ANTONESCU WASN'T ANY BETTER THAN ADOLF AND IF HE HAD AS MUCH POWER AS THE NAZZIES HE WOULD HAVE BEEN A WAR CRIMINAL AS HILTER AND HIS BOUNCH OF CRIMINALS ENDING UP AT THE NURENBERG TRIAL AFTER MUSSOLINI STANDING ON WAR CRIMINALS RANKING NR 3 BY COUNTRIES. THANKS GOD THEY GOT RID OF HIM EARLY ENOUGH. FINALLY SIR SINCE YOU TALK ABOUT HIS STATUE IN TEL AVIV , I DONT ONLY THINK THAT'S A POOR JOKE OF YOURS, BUT IS AN INSULT TO THIS FORUM TOPICS ..BECUASE THE TOPICS ARE NOT RELATED TO REVIVAL OF FASCISM OR NEO NAZZISM BUT AAR AND ROUMANIAN ARMED FORCES IN WWII WHO WERENT NAZZIES NOR WERE RELUCTANT TO BE !!!
