I think the Baneasa airport was called in those times as today: the Baneasa airport.
Of course, this has to be double-checked. |

I am starting to be confused here... If Baneasa airport is in the right side of the photo, my statement is wrong. So what is the rectangle ended with half-circles? Maybe the island of the little lake from the Herastrau Park? (In those days it was King Carol II park.) But it seems the surrounding area of that "oval" do not reflect light like the neighboring river. I forgot how close is Baneasa to Herastrau. I do not dismiss either your statement that "Casa Scanteii" ("The Building of Spark") was built on the site of the Bucharest Hippodrome. However, as patient in the Bucharest Municipal Hospital I learned that what did I see nearby from window was the former Bucharest Hippodrome. (Closed during the Communists, re-opened today, not sure if in the same location. If I am not wrong.) |

I am not living in Bucharest, so I do not know what was close to the actual location of the Municipal Hospital. But I have read somewhere that the most famous hippodrome in Bucharest was approximately on the same place where the Press House (former Casa Scanteii), the Exhibitions Centre Romexpo and the Sofitel hotel are now situated. And the photo proves that on that spot there was indeed a hippodrome. Maybe this was the Baneasa(?) Hippodrome. :? Anyhow, the broad boulevard going to the left in the photo from the hippodrome is most likely the Kiseleff Boulevard as the disposition of the streets and lakes matches very well the map below. For Denes and Carol I,
I think the answer for us is right in the hand-written marks on the photo. The American wrote: "BUCHAREST - MOGASAIA OIL STORES". I think he had the intention to write: "MOGOSOAIA OIL STORES". If it is Mogosoaia, I think there is logic in the claim of "Carol I" that he recognizes the Baneasa airport. |

Photo of a densely populated area in Prahova county.
Could it be from Ploiesti? |

Bombing of an airfield around Buzau
Could it be the Zilistea-Boboc airfield? |

Near the Municipal Hospital, on the Damboivita's bank were the Royal Stables, presently the "National Academy for Physical Education and Sports" (ANEFS).
Btw, some wings of the Cotroceni Palace are much older (17th century). |

In an old album I have found an image of the entrance to the "Baneasa Hippodrome" situated in the Sosea area. I guess it corresponds to the racetrack in the photo. |

Great! Can you identify the airfield in the other two Buzau photos? It does not seem to be located on the spot marked "Airfield" on your photo (the surroundings seem different). Could it be the Zilistea-Boboc airfield, a few km from Buzau? |
