In this photo, King Carol II is shown wearing the badge of the Straja Ţării youth organisation and below it a white Maltese cross that resembles very much the badge of the Order of St. John. Could you please give more details about this particular badge (and its relationship with King Carol II)? Thanks. |

Carol II and Prince Nicolae were each awarded the Order. Carol II's badge was in enamel and gold by Weiss. I have the authority and a picture of the badge somewhere-I will try to find it for you. |

Is it true the badge of the Order of St. John?
I also remember seeing a post-WWI photo of King Ferdinand with a similar white Maltese cross on the chest.
Thank you very much. |

I have seen it called both the Order of St. John and Order of Malta. |

Thank you for the reference. I guess that King Ferdinand must have received the badge as a catholic (therefore a somewhat more common fact) since Carol II and Nicolae are specifically mentioned as non-catholic awardees of the highest grade of the order.
However, it was a bit odd to see King Carol II wearing the badge of the Order of St. John but no badge of a senior Romanian order. This is why I thought it might have been something special about the white badge. |

Thank you for the image. Is it the Weiss-made badge of King Carol II?
