Hi,
I am interested inthe three B24's that were shot down and later repaired and used as training aircraft with the Rumanian Air Force. Which B24's were they and what became of them ? I understand that there were at least three. thank you for any replies. Alex |

At least two were repaired and were flown by Romanian test pilots. They were destroyed in August 1944, by German aircraft strafing the airfield.

There is photographic evidence of 2 such B-24s being repaired and repainted in ARR colours. Both of them were reportedly flown, although how many times is uncertain.
There were plans of forming a heavy bomber squadron using more recovered B-24s (up to 9), but the plan did not come to fruition, mainly due to the Germans' reluctance to offer technical assistance and spare parts. I know of only one B-24 being destroyed by strafing Luftwaffe Bf 109Gs on Ghimbav airfield in late August 1944. The fate of the other one is unkown (to me). Dénes |

there was only one b24 repaired. There is no evidence that were two. That b24 was destroyed at the begining of sept 1944 by some German Bf 109.

Yes, that was B-24 D Boiler Maker II repaired in 1943. Another B-24 G or J, force landed intact in '44 ( near Craiova?) |

As I saw in military archives, the repaired Boyler Maker II was send to civil aviation, but was destroyed before its first flight as ,,civilian'' plane
