Do you have more details about the 1911 Italian event? Was it about a hand grenade (which suggests that the inventive pilot or observer simply grabbed an opportunity) or about a bomb with fins (which would disprove the claim of the Bulgarians)?[/quote] I am sorry for the liberty of using the word "grenade", even though in effect may be equal with a small bomb. The following is from "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Military Aircraft - 1914 to the present", by Enzo Angelucci. At page 13 of English language 2001 edition (Chartwell Books, Inc.) is mentioned: "The first practical application took place barely two years later in the Italian conquest of Libya (the first reconnaisance flight was carried out on 23rd October 1911 by Capt. Carlo Piazza, and the first bombing raid on 1st November by 2nd Lt. Giulio Giudotti)." Yes, I know the autor is Italian, but the book is good and comprehensive. Actually first time I read this in a book printed in late 80's in Romanian, "Mica enciclopedie aviatica"/"The little aviatic encyclopedia". |

OK, once again. Lt. av. ® Nicolae Polizu was awarded the Mihai Viteazul Order 3rd class by Royal Decree No. 3202 from 14 November 1941. I do not think I have to tell you who was the King that signed the decree. One kill was not enough to award even a Virtutea Aeronautica Gold Cross class, not to mention the Mihai Viteazul Order, which for aviators also brought a VA Order Knight class. FLorin and Carol I, get back on topic. :offtopic: |
