Hello everybody,
i want to help a member of a flight simulation community, who contacted me after i had made a colour scheme of Iolu Nicolae's aircraft. The community member is a friend of Iolu Nicolae's grandson. Iolu Nicolae flew a Bf 109 E-3 with a Grupul 7 in the romanian airforce, marked yellow 19. he's a holder of the iron cross (dont know whether 1st or 2nd class). i got to make the colour scheme of his aircraft, because the aircraft's left wing was destroyed once on ground, and the ground crew fixed it with a german BF 109's wing, leaving the original Balkenkreuz on it, so it looked pretty unusual. now im in search for possibly more information, i know there are not many details to work with and any hints are greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Sven

There is a profile of this aircraft made by Bogdan Patrascu. I will ask him for it.

If your friend knows Nicolae Iolu's grandson, maybe he can find out enough biographical details in order to make him a profile here: http://www.worldwar2.ro/arr/pilots.htm

About ten years ago, I've heard that Mr. Iolu was still alive, living somewhere in Moldavia. Maybe he's still with us.
Can someone check the telephone books of main Moldavian towns (Iasi, for example)? Iolu is not a frequent name...

From two different magazines (Airmagazine hors serie no 1 "les Bf 109 roumains" and Batalles Aeriennes no 21) I found two interesting photos about this plane and its german wing. I do not know haw to charge it here but i will scan it and send you those two photos

Yours,
BM
