About a year ago I visited a friend of my uncle,Mr Neculai Cernescu,in order to get some ARR stories.
Didn't get much, but I'd like to write about an experience NC got while serving in the secret service in the 20's. To mention that NC is today 94 and althau he was severly wondded in the war(a bullet in the neck and one in the hip) and was in jail for 12 years is in quite good shape... In the 20's there were some smuglers gangs that were operating across the Danube, from Bratislave to Odessa. There was a need for someone to infiltrate in those gangs and find who the leaders were. NC was recruted since he spoke perfectly Cheh. He got the identity of a young guy from Odessa who died in an accident together with his parents. He got a Cheh pasport from the Cheh embasy in Buc.and went to Bratislava. There he met for the first time his Grandmother,in fact the grandmother of the dead guy,who never saw him. He spent more thana year doing dif.jobs till he was recruted by the smuglers. They were interested in him since he spoke Russian and knew Odessa.(he realy never been there). He was sent by the Danube with some heads to Odessa. On the way NC found himself in trouble, since he'll loose his cover when arriving in Odessa. Also the captain of the ship suspected hin and was watching.. While passing near Giurgiu,NC jumpt into the Danube, almost naked(it was April) and swam ashore. The sailors opened fire on him but were fired back from a Romanian border patrol, who thought to be the target. NC was arested but his identity was soonly reastablish. He went back to BUc in border patrol uniform. His mission was a succes and many smuglers heads were arested. Interesting to mention, that after a few years NC visited his "Grandmoter "in bratislava,to whom he got very close, and never knew he was not her nefhew. Another mission NC had just before the war was in Kairo. He went there as violin player(I saw the pictures and ads in the newspaper). What he spyed there he would't tell. NC,like a real JAmes Bond (he speaks 7 lang, plays violin and piano like a pro )never talks about his missions. At least not yet. To mention that before and after been imprisoned NC was a profesor of ingeneering at the Politehnical institut of BUc. |

Finely something about some romanian secret operations.
My best wishes for your uncle he is definetly a remarcable man. But why he don t want to talk about his activity as secret agent ? Maybe will be good to ask him to write down something as a secret testament or something ... to alow you to read it after a few years after he will not be in this world ... I was always interested about the trainigs of secret agents. How he was recruted ? Where he learn such much languages and where he got the artistic skills ? |

N Cernescu is a friend of my uncle..
He spent a lot of time in jail ,his house was confiscated .... You'll understand why he doesn't want to talk. He was playing violin since childhood. As training he got a pilot licence. I hope in Sept I'll met him again at my uncle's 90' birthday. |
